How did Lady Macbeth really feel about being stuck behind the throne? What if Cleopatra had gotten her happily-ever-after?

These are some of the questions that Dame Harriet Walter, one of Britain’s most famous Shakespearean actors, has tried to answer with her book She Speaks! In this funny, insightful, and unique WORDTheatre adaptation, Shakespeare’s women are finally given the chance to speak their minds and say what they’ve really been thinking all these hundreds of years. Performed by Harriet Walter and six other actresses and accompanied by live music, She Speaks! imagines how these women’s stories might have played out if they’d been granted the stage time they deserved.

WORDTheatre takes great writing from the page to the stage. Since 2003, this non-profit organization has presented events featuring well-known actors who bring to life compelling literature by renowned authors. WORDTheatre Campus offers live and digital performances to schools. We aim to make a better world one story at a time.
