Distinguished Voices: Lunch with Jessie Kornberg of the Skirball Cultural Center
Monday, October 6, 2025
11:30 AM

Grab a seat at the table with Jessie Kornberg, President and CEO of the Skirball Cultural Center since July 2020. She brings two decades of civil rights work to the role, with a career rooted in dismantling systemic inequality. Kornberg began in anti-poverty services for homeless families in New York and went on to work with the NAACP and NOW. She founded Ms. JD to support women in law and co-chaired the pro bono program at Bird Marella, leading prison reform efforts including a landmark case for death row inmates at Angola prison.

In 2014, she became CEO of Bet Tzedek, expanding the legal aid nonprofit’s reach to include the nation’s first transgender medical-legal partnership and initiatives for undocumented families. During the COVID-19 crisis, she co-chaired LA Represents, a major pro bono legal effort for residents and small businesses. Kornberg also serves as a trustee of the Los Angeles Urban League, the Motion Picture & Television Fund, and UCLA School of Law, where she earned her JD. She lives in Silver Lake with her spouse, Aaron Lowenstein, and their children, Asa and Sadie.
