Norma Shearer was the queen of Pre-Hays Code film. The first American film actress to make it chic and acceptable to be single and not a virgin on screen, she should be considered a feminist icon today for her pre-code career and her portrayal of women’s sexuality. Winning the Academy Award in 1930 for her performance in The Divorcee, Shearer set the screen on fire with her smoldering performances in a string of sultry roles. This presentation will explore Shearer’s precode career with film clips and rarely seen photographs.
Darin Barnes is the leading expert on the career of Norma Shearer. Born and raised in Los Angeles, he has worked in the entertainment field for over thirty years.
